pairs

When I'm not volunteering at NewSpring or sifting through potential job opportunities on Craigslist, LinkedIn, etc. (because that's what I do with the majority of my time), I'm usually at a thrift store or in the garden center. Two of my mom's favorite places that I vividly remember loathing as a child. At that point in my life, neither of them had much to offer. I wouldn't say I've grown up yet but I do have a new perspective on them.

I've been wanting to start an herb garden for a while now but never really had the time to, with school and everything. So in my semi-newly attained "freedom," I decided to get a couple just to get started. I got the rosemary first because I knew it would be easy to keep alive and I just love the smell. And it was the first one I found. I just got the mint yesterday. It is really my favorite and originally when I was thinking about getting this miniature garden started, my first priority was to get some mint. I love the smell and its super refreshing in my tea or even just ice water.

My collection of chairs was not planned. The blue chair is one that I found last summer in a streak of boredom. I was probably itching for a project too at the time since that was when I was first introduced to Pinterest. So you can imagine I was feeling super inspired, ha! Anyway, I rescued it from Goodwill and gave it a makeover. I think the decision to start building this family of chairs was a natural response when I saw the little brown one this weekend. It was in the back by itself and only $3 and I couldn't walk away from it. You can probably see that I've experienced some frustrations with getting the stickers off. I'm still deciding if I want to paint it blue or a different color. Either way, I think they will function great together.

In general, I like the idea of creating my own sense of unity within variety. Like, bringing the chairs together, and the herbs together. You know? Because they might've never been paired on their own. Maybe I'm getting crazy, but they kind of have their own personalities and they're saying to each other, "I know we're different but that doesn't matter, we're still together."

I look forward to the day that these two pairs are no longer pairs but healthy, colorful, growing families.
